ANYONE ELSE FEEL SICK THE FIRST HALF?

I have watched a lot of UT football games in my life, and Saturday’s game was probably the most emotional one I can remember.  I was really hoping we would shut them down the second half…WE DID… I was hoping we would lead by the end of the 3rd Quarter..WE WERE…and then the rest is history.   You have to give Oklahoma State a lot of credit.  They played us as hard and as well as anyone for 2 quarters.  They will win a lot of games under this coach.

I sure enjoyed seeing Vance Bedford. (an old Longhorn player and now OSU defensive coach)  I have never seen such pained looks on any other coach’s face.  He worked hard, and it look as if they couldn’t make any mistakes.  Everything fell into place.  But that was the FIRST HALF.

The  Longhorns look like winners, and with a little luck, we can be in the Rose Bowl again.  I know Baylor will come out like OSU and try to spoil our dreams.  They want to take it all away from us.  I for one, will yell as hard as I can, and NOT let them take anything.

We will go to Waco Saturday.  Hook ‘em Horns!

THIS AND THAT

University of Texas fans need not get too comfy with the #1 BCS rankings.  Texas is #1 right now.  BUT….

SC has California and UCLA left on their schedule.  One in top 10 right now.  We have nobody.  We cannot help that our conference is down this year.  We always have to play Baylor, but, because of the W L records, the BCS will put Texas #2 by the end of the season, if we win out.  Now, I will tell you why this (in my opinion) happening.  The Rose Bowl is scared SC and UT won’t be the teams in January.  They are afraid if Texas loses they will end up with VT, and they don’t want that.  Perhaps like last year, no California team, which would really chap them. (and hurt them financially)

Texas should win out.  I have said they are a great team.  We didn’t play as well as we can, and still beat a GOOD Texas Tech team by a bunch.  (52-17)  so, let us hope that the BCS people and their know all, see all computers keep Texas either #1 or #2.

Off to Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Oklahoma State hasn’t won a conference game.  Hmmmm I wonder if it will be this score?  Texas 65  OSU 12.  That is my prediction for this week, and I’m sticking to that one too.  Last game…add 4 to our score, and take 4 from theirs, and I had it perfectly..hahah.

Go Horns! We are proud of you.  Go beat OSU and we will think about going to Waco for the Baylor Bears.  More later.

The golf tournament was fun yesterday.  We had a great day for it.  IF YOU ARE A POLAR BEAR!!!  It started off in the 40’s.  The wind was blowing 15 mph, at least, and it was pretty chilling!  We played with my longtime friend from Midland, and his partner.  My friend’s wife, also a good friend, was with us, and we all had a great time with her as well.  We all had a wonderful time, and it is always nice to help The Texas Exes!  God Bless Texas!!!

BASEBALL, FOOTBALL AND GOLF

I watched the Houston Astros lose and then win in STL.  What a series this will be.  One team that hasn’t been there in a long time, Chicago White Sox.  Houston has never been to a world series..congratulations to both teams.  I am usually an American League backer, but this year, I am afraid I have to go with Houston.  Well, I just have to.  It would be “UNTEXAN”  not to!  So, come on Houston, give it all you have.  We will be pulling for you.

I get bored watching Major League Baseball.  I like the Longhorns.  I know the players, and I know the park, and I just like to watch UT do anything.  But, I just never have gotten in to Major League games.  UNTIL playoffs…then I pick a team, and go.  This year is easy.

Speaking of big games.  WOW!  Texas Tech is coming to town, and we have to find a way to beat them, and hold them to much less than the 600+ they gained last game.  I know Texas will be up to the task.   That is why I predict Texas will win 56-21.  That is my prediction, and I’m sticking to it!!!!!!

We play in a fun golf tournament Monday at the University of Texas Club.  We went out yesterday to take a look at the course.  OF COURSE,  we brought our Golf Guru…..He tried not to laugh while we were slashing and picking our way through the 18 holes. He has been a friend of mine for a lot of years.  He has seen the good the bad and the ugly as far as my game goes.  Mostly ugly.  But, we keep trying to make it better.  The University of Texas Club, as the name implies, is the home of the University of Texas golf team.  Coach John Fields was there yesterday, and spoke to us..he has done a great job at Texas.  The facilities out there are absolutely first class, and those men are lucky to be in Austin. It is a hard course for women, and I am not sure it is that easy for men.  I know one thing, we go out to play in that tournament to back the University of Texas  ExStudents Association. We would have to cheat to win, and you know “there’s no cheating in golf”…

Thank you GH for all your help, and your friendship.

The weather is supposed to be in the 60”s and low 70’s Monday.  We are in the 90’s today, and for the past 4 days.  I hope we don’t get too cold!  (read and weep, those in the icy parts of USA)

OK, Hook ‘em Horns, and we will see what happens Saturday!

FOOTBALL SATURDAY

It is Saturday morning, Colorado is in town, and we are getting ready for some football.  Austin is a fun place to be on game days.  There is fall in the air, and although it will be 84˚  at game time, it is in the 60’s right now.  Feels good.  Although I love hot weather.

The Longhorns look like a championship team.  Everybody but the BCS is ranking them 1 or 2!  Mostly 2, but that is because  SC hasn’t played ND yet.  I think that is the game to watch today, although the Horns are on the same time.  IF we become number 1 in the football polls, and the BCS has us at # 8…that does that mean?  What a shame, if the Texas Longhorns go undefeated and get to go to the um…Sun Bowl.  EEEKKKK.  I don’t want to think about that.

Actually, what I do want to think about is TODAY.   Colorado is always tough.  They beat us when we could have been in championship game when Chris was our QB.  Applewhite came in late, and rallied us to a close game…but that was a really big disappointing night in Dallas, at the Big XII Championship game.

I have always disliked having the championships, as you might have played that team during the season, beaten them, and have to turn around and beat them again.  Not easy.
Well, we have a championship game, so we may as well just go on and forget about it.

So here is my prediction for the game.   Texas 48  CU 21.    See how close that is to the real score.   Hook ‘em Horns!  (image placeholder)

OH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING...

We are having a beautiful day here, today.  The Longhorns beat the Sooners, and now, we should be off and running!  Not to say that Colorado isn’t going to be a tough game…they all are. We do have the Buffs in Austin…  We have to go to Waco, and those who have followed the Horns for as long as I have, remember the horrible losses and close games up there.  Baylor is playing a pretty good brand of football this year.  Good for them.  It has to be hard to wear Green and Gold, and lose all your important games.

Oklahoma didn’t seem the same team that has worn us out in Dallas the past few years.  I know when you begin to win all your games, you can become complacent.  I sure hope the Horns get to that point, and prove that wrong for them.  It is too early to be thinking anything but Colorado, then Texas Tech, and so on.

Texas Tech will be a great game, and luckily, the Longhorns will be home for that one too.

So for now, I am going to just say Hook ‘em Horns!  Thank you for a great win, and let’s continue to play with heart.  Vince Young has a lot to do with our turnaround.  I say turnaround…lot’s of people called The Texas Longhorns soft.  Well, they aren’t any more.  Meet the “play hard, win with class” Longhorns.

Tune in.  They will be playing some extra special games.  Let’s hope the Eastern writers don’t replace us as #1 OR 2 with someone like ND or Va Tech.  They sure will try.  We need to win with some authority..Like the Astros are doing!

Go Horns!
