BEING 100 AND BOOMING THE SOONERS!!

We got back from Midland, Monday. It was a fast trip, but a really fun one. We stayed with our pal Sally, and went to a 100th birthday party. How many weekends can you say you went back to your home town, and your neighbor had her 100th birthday??? I have only said it once.

Ann had a nice party for Kitty Ashby, and Mrs. Ashby looked marvelous! She sat in a chair with a beautiful new dress on, and smiled at all the well wishers. She seemed to appreciate the day… There were some really funny moments in the video we watched. The TV station went out to her home on Friday, to interview her. Mrs. Ashby has always had a sense of humor. Nowadays, her memory isn’t what it used to be, but she is still the funniest lady I know! I think Ann has her humor…and knowing Ann all these years, it is probably a good thing she can laugh at some of the events! Right Ann???

They asked her how it felt to be 100. She said “I have never been 100 before, so I really don’t know… but I feel the same as I did yesterday”

That was funny. Then she told them that she had played golf until 3 years ago. Now, I know that is a big one! She probably hasn’t played in 3-0 years! Thirty or more would make her in her 70’s and since I still play, maybe it has been more like 20 years ago. Again, that is a really funny one!!!!

She told them her sister was right behind her at 98. (her sister died 15 years ago, Ann told us) She obviously thinks about her sister, and is comforted by thinking she is still here.

Isn’t it great what our minds will do when we got older, and worn out? We remember some nice things, and I for one would never be critical of her imagination. She is the last of the parents for Midlanders my age and a year younger. God Bless her, and God Bless Ann for all she does for her “ma”. Ma loves her…she just can’t always show it.

There were several people at the party..most I had not seen in 50 years. I saw Gail Black down at Galveston several years ago, but Lavonne, Pat, and Caroline..Had not seen them in a LONG, long time. Time flies when you look back on your life. It has been fun to be from Midland, and to visit from time to time.

We got back Monday, as I said…and here it is Friday. What is this week???? Well….
Here it is again. The day before the big Dallas shootout. We are not going this year. But will be glued to the TV…that is, if our company will let us! I am kidding of course, as my daughter is every bit the fan I am, and she trained Greg right, he is pretty solid UT also. Holly is probably as good a fan as there is. Brit has TCU on her mind these days, so we won’t expect much from her, if she comes to Austin, tomorrow!

We are going to have a lot of fun. Cheering for the Horns, and eating good food. Holly is eating for two now, and we all have to eat better food with her! No grease. (ohmygosh) What will we have???

I think Texas will win, but heck, I always say that. I know Texas can beat any of their opponents, at any time! So, Hook ‘em Horns, and boom the Sooners!
