07 or 007? New Tropical Depression arrives...

Does anyone watch the Hurricanes like I do? There is ANOTHER in the Gulf. I cannot remember a year that we have had 1 hurricane a week. We have had Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Dennis, Emily. Franklin in the Atlantic, turning East, as I type, and tropical depression 07...gathering strength in the Gulf of Mexico, as I type.

What is going on? (PICTURE) Bolivar Lighthouse near ferry landing.. Here is where many were sequestered during the 1900 Hurricane that did so much damage, and killed so many on Galveston Island, and Bolivar.

Living on the coast has always been a "crap shoot", but this year is more like a "Turkey Shoot" ... One of these nasties will come our way, I fear. Being between Galveston and Beaumont, we always have a chance...

We have another 3 months of storm season. Stay tuned. While I pack to go to Austin. I never said I was brave. Just try to stay ahead of trouble, if I can. Posted by Picasa

GAMBLING ON SLOTS, NOT WEATHER!

Here we are in the last week of July. We have just returned from a "flight from the beach" week in Louisiana. At the Casinos. Well, you have to get away from the Beach area when the Hurricane warnings for Texas show high tides and bad weather. We left. We are glad we did. Nothing happened at the beach..oh a little rain....but what a great time we had at Isle of Capri in Lake Charles.

My sister-in-law introduced me to slot machines about 4 years ago. Well, am I glad she did. We have just had a great 3 days.

I won a little. I usually write checks... Oh, and by the way, I wore all my Texas shirts, so everyone would know where we came from!!!! (the one with the little longhorn head on it...that would be BEVO)

Until the next Hurricane warning, I guess I will just sit in the sun, and have a restful week here. Looks like Franklin will turn East and hurry out to sea. Thank God it won't be hitting our land.

I will go back to Austin on the 31st. Love July at the beach! So interesting this year with all the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico. I hope next year is real dull. We will find our way back to Louisiana, rain or shine!  Posted by Picasa

Hook 'em to YOU, Mr. President

I have had this picture on my computer for a long time. I think it is so great looking. While President Bush was Governor of the Great State of Texas. He would show up at a lot of the University of Texas games. We really could get a good look at him at the Basketball games. I think he learned TO USE the "Hook 'em Horns!" sign during those years. Funny thing... once you make that sign as a sign of excitement and approval, you just never use anything else. When you go out of town, people recognize each other as Texas fans, when Hook 'em is flashed!

Look at Earl Campbell when he was with Houston Oilers...yep, he was always doing the Hook 'em sign after a TD. I saw it from New Orleans and Miami..where ever our players go.. You can watch any UT EX in the NFL and you will see those fingers flying up to give OUR SIGN.

Harley Clark, a UT alumni, introduced the sign at a pep rally when he was a cheerleader at Texas. (I see umpires and baseball players all over, making OUR SIGN, of course they think it means 2 outs. We know better)

When the President of the United States puts his horns up you know it is something pretty special. Is there any other College sign that is more recognizable, or used? (For that matter, isn't BEVO pretty recognizable? *That would be the little longhorn decal on the side of the helmet* We have people who don't like UT, giving what they say is "upsidedown Horns", they think they are insulting us...but I always tell them thanks for giving our sign...it is Hook 'em Horns, no matter what direction your fingers point. Up, down or sideways..still Hook 'em. To all the people from other teams..keep giving our sign..we know you don't have one for yourself..just feel free to use ours!!!

Since our President is a Texan, and one of his twin daughters went to UT, it means just that much more to him. Thank you for giving the University of Texas a great backer!

Happy Birthday, America

Here it is again, America's Birthday. Goodness, it seems like yesterday I was singing Happy Birthday America..and here we are, at the Beach House, celebrating a beautiful holiday. I think of all the holidays in America, now, this is the right up there with Christmas and Easter. It is, of course, a different kind of holiday. We celebrate a beautiful republic, that has developed into the most wonderful country in the world.

IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Where else can you do the things you can do in America? Where else can you find thousands even millions of people coming to a country...legally and illegally. Can you think of one other country that people, of this number, come and keep coming??? No, there is no place like the United States of America.

Thanks to our military, we can all be free, and we must take a minute tomorrow (JULY 4th) to thank God for our country and our freedoms. I have a husband that flew Corsairs in WWII. He was 19 when he went into the service. He saw a lot of his friends never make it back to their homes. We owe a lot to him, and his fellow Marines. My Grandson is an Army Airborne soldier, serving in Qatar now. He, too, was 19 when he entered the service. Thank God for our wonderful young men and women. Thank you Gregory, for your service, and your love of country. You have made a lot of people very proud. How lucky we are. How lucky we are. Have a wonderful Birthday, America! The land that I love. And, thank YOU, President BushPosted by Picasa
