ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK and LYNN ANDERSON

Home again! John, my son who lives here in Austin, and I went to the Beach House last Wednesday..I worked on my weather station …

No weather getting onto the Internet. Oh well. I spent 4 hours trying. I turned off the computer, and will worry about it when I go down after the first football game in September for Labor Day. The official end of summer, and when I was growing up, the start of school. Yikes, I used to hate to see September come around!

We headed to L’Auberge du lac in Lake Charles. We went for gambling, but we also went for some golf, and to see two concerts. Engelbert Humperdinck was there. He used to be hot in the 60’s and 70’s. I have heard his music for a long time, and wanted to go see him in person. We had a great time playing golf Friday morning. Although..that was the most horrible humidity I have ever been in. It was so bad, we were completely soaking wet by the 2nd hole. It was lucky we had sprayed for mosquitoes, as they were lurking all around!!!! After we played, we were heading back to the club house, and noticed someone hitting on the practice tee…kept on going to the place where we would catch a ride back to the hotel. I asked the Marshal if Engelbert Humperdink played golf? He said, “as a mater of fact, he is on the practice range, right now. Would you like to meet him?” I said “I would be honored and thrilled to meet him.” (all this time, I think John is hoping we could get on back to the hotel!!!! ) So we retraced our steps, as it were, and there he was..sitting in a golf cart and looking right at us. I told him “I had loved him for a long time, and it was an honor to meet him”. He was nice, and smiled..he was very nice, actually..shook both of our hands, and we told him we would see him that evening! What a fun thing to happen!!!!! We didn’t ask for an autograph. We figured he would appreciate not having to do that during golf time!!!! AND, it was enough shaking his hand.

We did see him that night. It wasn’t until 9 p.m. and I am usually ending a day about that time, not starting something fun!!!! So, we loved the show. He sang a lot of the ones I remembered he sang, and some I hadn’t heard. Release Me, and other wonderful favorites!!!! It was a lot of fun, and I think most of us oldy goldies sort of enjoyed the heck out of it!!!!! I was a little disappointed he didn’t sing my two favorites..Misty Blue, and Walk Through This World With Me. He has an English accent, and you never hear it in his singing.

We left the next morning for Delta Down, in Venton…about 25 miles down the road. We had reservations to see Lynn Anderson, at 7 p.m. We gambled a bit, and got ready for the concert. It was a VERY NICE concert. I think she is amazing. Well, so is Engelbert. They are both at the end of their careers, and although many young people don’t know them, they continue to entertain. It is always fun to see someone you have ‘heard of” and listened to. It was really a wonderful vacation to Louisiana. I don’t know why Texas doesn’t get gambling. We have spent some cash over across the state line, and it could be here in Texas, if they had casinos!!!! That will probably never happen in my life time. So, I will continue to travel for 5 hours to find the first Slot Machine!!!!!!

Thank you Engelbert and Lynn for a great two evenings, spent with real pros! So, if you don’t know them, and never heard them sing…go find them with google, or some other method, and read up..you might get lucky enough to be where they are some day. It would be worth the time!

No, we didn’t win money. But..we did win, actually!
